Gawd, it's been so long and I've been so slack... My eldest daughter and I went to Borneo (Sabah, Malaysia) recently and here are some of the photos of the oranghutans. I'll post other destinations and photos later.
This little sweetie was the main reason I wanted to go to such a hot place; to see others like her now that I'm a regular donor to an adoption program with the Oranghutan Foundation Australia. Our trip was to Malayasian Borneo so I wasn't able to actually see the place I'm supporting, which is in Indonesian Borneo. It was incredibly hot and humid and I doubt I'll return or want to travel to anywhere like that again. But. So glad we went.
This is Peanuts who is 9 years old and a graduate of the Orphan programme at the Sepilok Oranghutan Rehabilitation Centre, near Sandakan in Sabah. He apparently comes back sometimes to check out the Centre and the day we visited was wandering around the pathways, closely followed by rangers asking us to stay clear. For his benefit, not ours.
This one of the nine or so cuties we saw through the glass at the orphan feeding station. "Look I can do the splits!"
Along with everyone else I was enjoying the rough and tumble display these two put on. There was a lot a laughter at their antics.
People were actually howling when this one threw himself on the ground. I was a bit slow to catch on. He was apparently a frustrated male because the female didn't want to get involved with him. Poor boy.
Naturally, being me, I was on the look out for any photo op, not only the oranghutans. This is a yellow bellied pipit (I think), one of many birds and animals (like macaque monkeys or the squirrel below) which arrive at feeding time.
I saw black and brown squirrels.
This is another mother and baby at the feeding platform near the Rehab Centre.
I'd highly recommend the TripADeal package we took, very good value and also the Rehab Centre.
